Installation of approximately 10,140 linear feet of 30-inch ductile iron water transmission main, along with 100 LF of 20-inch DIP, 10,660 LF of 12-inch DIP, 1,440 LF of 8-inch DIP, and 1,240 LF of 6-inch DIP water distribution mains. The 30-inch and 12-inch mains were installed parallel within the travel lanes of an active four-lane highway, requiring careful traffic management and phasing.
Work included abandonment of the existing 30-inch steel water main, service swap-overs ranging from 1-inch to 8-inch for commercial customers, and installation of numerous 8-inch and 12-inch insertion valves to limit customer outages during construction. New interconnections were installed to integrate the replacement mains with the existing water distribution system, providing enhanced capacity and reliability while maintaining continuous service throughout the project.
Maintaining heavy traffic flow was mandatory through major multi-lane intersections where full closures were not allowed. This was accomplished by working nights/weekends to minimize traffic impacts. We built temporary access points and driveways for multiple commercial/industrial businesses while we installed pipe across their property frontage. We encountered approximately 700 linear feet of unknown storm sewer system that directly conflicted with the new water mains. This required us to remove, re-design & replace this section of storm sewer pipe & manholes following our installation of the new water mains.
