Job Overview

The Mechanical Superintendent is responsible for the direct oversight and technical execution of multiple crews performing critical maintenance and repair services across various water/wastewater treatment facilities and pump stations across Atlanta.

Operating as a high-impact link between project management and field operations, this role requires a “lead-by-example” approach, serving as both a field supervisor and a technical expert capable of performing complex mechanical repairs alongside their crews.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Field Leadership & Scheduling: Plan, schedule, and direct daily maintenance and emergency repair operations across regional water/wastewater treatment facilities and pump stations.
  • Hands-on Mechanical Repair: Lead from the front to tear down, rebuild, and replace critical pump and motor components – as well as wet well cleaning.
  • System Troubleshooting: Diagnose root causes of equipment failures and troubleshoot complex pumping systems.
  • Site Safety Management: Enforce safety regulations and oversee jobsite safety compliance.
  • Crew Development: Provide on-the-job training and technical assistance to newer or less experienced crew members across various local and regional project sites.
  • CMMS & Record Keeping: Manage maintenance logs, track corrective/preventive maintenance workflows, and assist management with routine reporting.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Proven track record of industrial mechanical maintenance and infrastructure repair of water/wastewater treatment plants, collection systems, and pump stations.
  • Expertise in repairing/rebuilding vertical turbine pumps, centrifugal pumps, gearboxes, and operational control instruments.
  • Field leadership experience with the ability to handle site logistics and coordinate field personnel.
  • Proficiency in interpreting P&IDs, O&M manuals, and legacy mechanical drawings.
  • State-certified Water or Wastewater Operator License (e.g., GA Wastewater Class 3, Water Distribution IV).
  • OSHA 30, Confined Space Competent Person, and Lock-Out/Tag-Out (LOTO) certifications.
  • Willingness to participate in an operational rotation and remain available for 24/7 on-call emergency response when critical infrastructure demands it.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean MVR and the ability to pass pre-employment screening.
  • Authorized to work in the US.
