Scope

Rehabilitation of approximately 4,620 linear feet of combined sewer line ranging from 48 inches to 72 inches in diameter using Sekisui Spiral Wound PVC lining technology. The project includes rehabilitation of 16 manholes and junction chambers by specialty subcontractor, with bypass pumping operations maintaining system flow throughout the rehabilitation process. This trenchless approach renews aging large-diameter infrastructure while minimizing surface disruption and maintaining continuous service to the combined sewer system.

Unique Challenges

The biggest challenge on this project was flow control management with our bypass pumping system. Partial bypass was required to promote a safe working environment for our crew while completing the pipe rehabilitation. A slide gate was profiled and implemented within the upstream junction chamber to serve as a dam for the sewage, and 2EA 12” hydraulic submersible pumps and 2EA 18” bypass pumps ran continuously under careful watch to accomplish this feat. Designated bypass pump watch was implemented during working hours to ensure that no spills occurred during rehabilitation of the interceptor.
