LF of 84-Inch Hand-Mined Tunnel

Scope

The GA Power Peachtree Substation project involved the re-routing of a 54-inch sewer trunk line at a Georgia Power Substation facility. Ruby-Collins installed 500 LF of 54-inch concrete pipe, 100 LF of 84-inch hand-mined tunnel, and two cast-in-place concrete junction boxes, along with grout fill abandonment of the existing pipe. The project also included two liner plate shafts — a 24-foot diameter, 26-foot deep shaft and a 16-foot diameter, 24-foot deep shaft. All sewer tie-ins and flow reroutes were performed under live flow using diversions, eliminating the need for bypass pumping, while crews maintained sewer flow diversion and asphalt restoration throughout the duration of the contract.

Unique Challenges

This project required the reroute and connection to the existing to be completed under live flow conditions
