Ruby-Collins completed Phase I of the Forest Trails Membrane Bioreactor Wastewater Treatment Facility in July 2015, which included the construction of a new 0.7 MGD membrane bioreactor plant inside the footprint of an existing plant. Phase II expanded the facility to a capacity of 1.4 MGD, allowing the Isle of Palms Water and Sewer Commission to retire the aging Wild Dunes Wastewater Treatment Plant.
Our crews self-performed all site clearing, excavating, dewatering, and backfilling. In addition, we handled concrete, structural steel, pipe installation, and process equipment installation ourselves.
Maintaining plant operations during construction was a challenge, especially considering the small size of the site. Not only did we need to carefully coordinate our own activities, but we also needed to collaborate with multiple subcontractors as well.
Ruby-Collins teams came up with creative solutions to work within the confines of the site, staging and phasing work to avoid stepping on anyone’s toes. Ultimately, we were able to perform our work without interrupting plant operations.
