Replacement of two existing 48-inch PCCP waterlines, totaling nearly 4,000 linear feet, with new 54-inch spiral welded steel pipe. These parallel lines pump raw water from the intake structure on Lake Keowee to the nearby Adkins Water Treatment Plant, where it is processed and distributed as clean drinking water to Greenville and surrounding communities.
Ruby-Collins crews executed sequential line replacement, completing one line at a time while maintaining continuous water supply to the plant. This phased approach required meticulous excavation and construction activities to avoid damaging the adjacent active line during replacement operations.
Interconnect piping and valves were installed between existing sections of the parallel lines to facilitate isolation and routing of raw water between the two lines as needed, providing operational flexibility and enhanced system reliability for this critical water supply infrastructure.
Replacement of these parralell pipelines required detailed coordination and precise excavation to prevent damage to the active line while replacing the one in parallel.
