Job Overview
We are seeking a versatile Excavator Operator / Skilled Laborer to support our Plant Division for a multi-year project in Albany, GA.
This is a dual-scope role designed for a hands-on operator. While your primary responsibility is the safe and efficient operation of the excavator, this is not a “cab-only” position. You will be expected to transition between operating equipment and assisting the ground crew with manual labor, pipe laying, and general site tasks to ensure project milestones are met.
Primary Duties
- Equipment Operation: Safely operate excavators to perform trenching, mass excavation, and material handling within a busy industrial plant environment.
- Ground Support & Labor: Regularly exit the cab to assist with manual tasks including hand-digging, spotting for other operators, and site cleanup.
- Utility Installation: Assist in the installation of underground utilities, including pipe laying, fitting, and securing trench shoring/shielding.
- Mechanical Assistance: Support the installation of process piping, conduits, and heavy industrial equipment.
- Equipment Care: Perform daily inspections and routine maintenance (greasing, cleaning) to ensure the machine remains in top working condition.
- Rigging & Spotting: Assist with rigging loads and providing clear hand signals to other equipment operators when not in the cab.
Qualifications
- Experience: Previous experience operating excavators in a plant, refinery, or heavy construction environment is required.
- Underground Utility Expertise: Prior experience with pipe laying and underground utility installation is highly preferred.
- Versatility: A proactive “all-hands-on-deck” attitude with a willingness to perform manual labor alongside the ground crew.
- Safety Commitment: Strict adherence to trench safety, OSHA excavation standards, and plant-specific safety protocols.
- Physical Demands: Ability to lift 50+ lbs, climb in and out of trenches, and work in various weather conditions.
- Compliance: Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening and physical. Authorized to work in the US.
