Ruby-Collins is proud to announce the successful completion of Sugar Creek: a complete removal and replacement of 25,000 linear feet of trunk sewer. We overcame an already-accelerated schedule, complex scope, and significant logistical challenges to deliver this project ahead of schedule and under budget.
Ruby-Collins’ scope was just one part of Atlanta’s Sugar Creek Basin Outfall & Trunk Sewer Replacement project. Our team upsized the existing outfall to a large-diameter fiberglass system, while eliminating sanitary sewer overflows in adherence with a federal consent decree. There was just one catch: That federal consent decree required work to be completed within 12 months. Ruby-Collins needed to precisely install pipes ranging from 30” to 60” in diameter, but that was only one of the challenges faced on site.
Before work could begin, we liaised extensively with city and county stakeholders to navigate extensive permitting, property coordination, logistical obstacles, and operational challenges within a dense urban setting.
Our team installed five miles of large-diameter sewer replacement and associated rehabilitation within less than 12 months to meet the court-mandated deadline. Ruby-Collins overcame this scheduling challenge by deploying six dedicated crews daily, leveraging intensive schedule management, and coordinating closely with both internal teams and the City of Atlanta to keep critical path activities on track and minimize delays.
Sugar Creek is just one example of Ruby-Collins’ ability to deliver critical infrastructure that supports growing communities while protecting natural resources. It’s also proof of our team’s ability to work under tight deadlines to deliver a high-quality end product.
